About the workshops:
Assessment for learning remains at the heart of effective pedagogy – there is no other proven practice that results in creating active, engaged life-longer learners who make greater progress and achieve better outcomes.
The three part series will take participants through the key principles of assessment for learning providing an overview of the student and teacher capabilities that promote learning-focused relationships and active learners, outlined in Clarity in the Classroom (Michael Absolum, 2006).
Session one - Thursday 20th May, 3:30 - 5pm:
This session will focus on understanding what assessment for learning is, why it is important and what this could look like in the classroom. We will then focus on developing learning focused relationships in the classroom.
Session Two - Thursday 3rd June, 3:30 - 5pm:
The second session focuses on ensuring clarity about what is to be learnt and what assessment literacy means for teachers and learners.
Session Three - Thursday 17th June, 3:30 - 5pm
The third session looks at developing capabilities in students which means they take an active part in their own learning. This includes use of self and peer assessment, reflecting on their learning, giving and receiving feedback so they are able to fully engage in learning conversations, and being clear about their next steps in learning.
